Founding of Troop 1564
Our troop was founded in 1997 with the first meeting being held on September 8 at the American Legion Hall Colin Hyde Post 172. Our first Scoutmaster was Bud Alger, father of Fred Alger, the first Senior Patrol Leader for our troop. Almost immediately after the start of the troop the scouts began to give back to their community. 5 days after their first meeting they picked up litter on the sides of the roads around the legion hall. The first court for our troop was on September 15, only a week after the first meeting. At this meeting Fred Alger earned the rank of Life Scout. The troop continued to do many activities including going to a Scout camporee at Camp Parsons.

Past Activities and Trips
Lower Gray Wolf Trail
This was a joint activity between troop 1564 and 1804, first the troops hiked upwards and saw some amazing views before hiking down to the river where we set up camp. Some scouts spent time playing cards or following sticks down the river. At night scouts roasted popcorn over the campfire.
Ape Caves
During this joint activity scouts visited Mt Saint Helens to explore Ape Caves. The caves form the third-largest lava tube in North America totaling 3.25 miles with the upper and lower cave sections. After exploring the caves scouts stayed overnight and left in the morning.
2025 Camporee
Every year both troops 1564 and 1804 partake in camporee in the spring, it is typically in the Port Gamble area. During Camporee there are lots of fun activities such as axe throwing and slingshot shooting. There are also competitions between troops involving tug of war and lashing together catapults.
